Two efficient powertrain choices are offered for the 2024 Kia Niro: a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. For the hybrid option, the 2024 Kia Niro combines a 1.6 liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with a 32-kW electric motor. This set-up delivers a combined output of 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, striking a good balance of power and fuel economy with EPA ratings of 53 mpg in the city and 54 mpg on the highway. One sweet bonus that makes the hybrid Niro more fun to drive with smoother and quicker gear changes is the six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Hopping over to the plug-in version of the 2024 Kia Niro, you get upgraded to a more powerful 62-kW unit, which combines with the existing hybrid system for an output of 180 horsepower. This increased electric power allows for extended electric-only driving. The plug-in also features a larger 11.1-kWh battery pack compared to the hybrid’s battery, which enables an impressive all-electric range of 33 miles. When you combine a full fuel tank and a fully charged battery, the 2024 Kia Niro Plug-in can reach a remarkable range of up to 510 miles. Your battery can be replenished in under 3 hours on a Level 2 240-volt charger. Both 2024 Kia Niro models utilize a regenerative braking system, which captures the energy your car produces when slowing down and then stores it in the battery. This energy is then used to power the electric motor in lieu of gasoline. Both models also offer one-pedal driving to further efficiency, which allows you to control acceleration, deceleration and coming to a complete stop using only the accelerator pedal. The SX Touring comes with the EX Touring and SX features, while also adding laminated side front windows. Now we come to the three PHEV options, which come with a larger battery and extended electric range. The Plug-in Hybrid EX is the same as the EX trim, but adds in a heated steering wheel and the option to add in heated rear seats. The Plug-in Hybrid SX Touring matches the SX trim’s features but uses the PHEV powertrain and adds laminated front windows for extra noise reduction.
